I was advised tonight by my trainer to leave the martingale on 24/7, instead of the traditional flat collar. Isn’t this dangerous due to the slip feature?
He uses a martingale for training, and [until tonight] wore the buckle around the house. Is it really okay to leave a martingale on all the time? I know buckle collars have their risks as well, but somehow a martingale seems more dangerous.
The dog in question is crated during the day and sleeps in a crate [door open] at night.

We do have other dogs, and he noticed in class that my dog had two collars on, the flat and the martingale. he said that corrections can be ineffective if the collars get tangled.
I think I’m going to leave the flat on him at home and take it off in public.
My trainer told me that a martingale or any training collar should only be used for training. I don’t leave my training collars on when I’m not working with my dog.
Is it wrong to put clothing on a dog?

I personally feel that it’s ok to put a sweater on a dog if it’s a hairless dog and the weather is cold. I think it’s stupid though when people put silly costumes on animals. Some animals get used to this but I think dogs would rather be without a useless, frilly tutu, for example! I was amazed at some of the stupid outfits they sell for small dogs. This seems to be a big trend too!

In my opinion, just as long as the clothes aren’t really tight or uncomfy I don’t see a problem with it. Er if the dog is cold. But i think if the dog has tons of fur and you put a sweater on it in 90 degree whether then ur cruel. lol.
