So let me just state that I would never use a "choke"chain or prong collar on a small dog.

Heres my demise,I have a small dog who is very well behaved on a basic collar and harness, but she has an issue with being skittish around loud noises,Example:I took my small dogs on vacation with me a few months ago,I took my one skittish dog out for a potty break and a car peeled rubber in the parking lot,she became very scared and started trying to back out of her collar and harness I had on her,she made it out of the collar and partially out of the harness, before I could grab her. Both the collar/harness were fitted properly. This unfortunately has been an issue we have been battling with her,but have had no success with her skittishness.

So I’ve decided that on top of her wearing a harness, she also needs to be wearing a better collar then what she had on during this ordeal,I have had great success with the Martingale collars on my other 2 dogs, and I was wondering if you thought it was a good idea to use something like this on her,I will not consider a "choke collar" or prong collar for her.

Any suggestions are welcome,or if you recommend a better collar please post the name of it?

BTW-Sorry if this question keeps popping up,Y!A had a temporary glitch, and for some reason my questions wouldn’t post.
@Anti-Fluff,I just have never really been comfortable using choke collars on any of my dogs including her,I think its more just a matter of preference for me,but I will look into the sites you posted,I take it you have a Chinese Crested, the dog I have been referring to is a CC powder puff:)

It really depends on the fit of the martingale.
Normally, I would recommend a longer than normal check chain. One that is still the correct chain width for the dog, but longer than what you would normally use. This way you can ensure that the dog does not accidentally get corrected while you are walking. Then it can just work as a backup if he does manage to slip out of the collar.
My only concern with the martingale is that it is designed to slip over the dogs head, so it would not be as effective at stopping him from escaping, but also, you would have to choose the correct sized collar for this to work- meaning that you would be checking him on walks.
If you don’t want him to be corrected on walks, then the check chain is actually a better solution, as you can opt for the larger size to ensure this does not happen. The martingale would have to be the correct size to ensure the dog could not escape from it- which would make it more likely that it would tighten unnecessarily during walks.

i’ve got the front part done, but when i bind off and start working the part that goes down the back I only have 11 stitches to work with and its not wide enough, looks like its only 1/2 of the back. I did not work the pattern in the round. Also, I can’t tell where the cable knit pattern starts on fifi’s caplet pattern, where it picks up at. So confusing!
Sorry, thought i had posted it. Here’s the pattern: http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/na_knitting/article/0,2025,DIY_14141_5190840,00.html
the link to the cable part directions are at the bottom of the page. Thanks!!

I already have a plan as far as what I would like to carry, the style, feel, and location of the place. I’m wondering first, how do I get financing for such a venture (I will be renting the building) and second, how does one locate items to sell? In other words, if I want to find items that are local or hard to find in other places? I have no idea about how to locate products that I can sell!

First, assume there is no financing available for your venture. Because, in this time of ‘fiscal frenzy’, credit is REALLY tight. You will likely have to fund the start-up expenses from your own assets.

Products produced locally can be viewed at local small business fairs and expo’s. Contact your Chamber of Commerce for the names of members who need retailers.

For more information and further assistance go to: www.SCORE.org. There you will find MUCH information about starting a small business.

Good Luck!

Out of these 5 dogs which one would you choose and why?

i have a dachshund that i’m trying to teach not to pull on the leash, she currently uses a harness for walks because of dachshunds backs. i’m in the process of house training her, and i had her on a regular collar and leash, and noticed that she wouldn’t pull as much on it. i’m still hesitant of using just a collar and not a harness for walks, but would a martingale collar help with pulling? and is it safe to use a collar instead of a harness on a dachshund? thanks in advance icon smile does a martingale collar help with a dog pulling on the leash?

Most people use a martingale collar with dogs who have small heads and thick necks (like greyhounds). A martingale tightens slightly, and so is less likely to slip off over the head.

I usually use a harness with small dogs, but if your dog walks better with a collar, by all means use a collar. I don’t see how using a collar could hurt your dogs back.

I can only do like three different stitches (knit, purl and this fancy one that i dont know the name of) I am also not that good with all the words they use in directions.. so a really easy pattern would be nice.. or a good pattern with a website that explains how to understand patterns

HI, I’ve posted a very easy knitted Chihuahua sweater pattern on my site. It starts by taking measurements, so you can make it to fit any dog. Here’s the link:
